"I am the false character that follows the name around."

As a function of history, the ghost has haunted human culture since its very inception. With the disappearance of this habitat, a new ghost has arrived to haunt us in the present tense. We are placed in the odd predicament of being demonically possessed by our own reflections as we live our lives from moment to moment.
"What are you doing?" Twitter asks us. The question could just as easily be, "Where am I?" but even this phrase is too inert. So tied to one place. Facebook has notably altered its own query from "What's your status?" to "What's on your mind?" As if the body had ceased to exist altogether.

Drop Shadow

The idea of the ghost in popular culture functions as a metaphor describing dimensional collapse, wherein corporeal forms are suddenly dematerialized--spilling back into themselves as phantasms of pure light or the lack thereof.
